CONCORD's Policy Direction Committee (PDC) would like to invite the leadership of national platforms and technical policy people from networks to participate in different activities organised by CONCORD and CSO coalitions, in Rome, between 23 and 25 March, in relation to the future of Europe, and how CONCORD can best influence power holders in Europe to promote the changes we aim for.
Please share this invitation with concerned persons.
On 25 March 2017, a European Summit will take place in Rome marking the 60th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome and making proposals on the future of Europe. In the run up to this, CSOs in Italy and Europe have united and agreed to convene all kinds of organisations to discuss the Europe We Want and send a message to the Summit.
CONCORD's Policy Direction Committee sees this as a moment to engage CONCORD members in this growing civic movement, and strategize on the Europe We Want as part of a large coalition and crucially to move this beyond Brussels. At the same time, the PDC would like to use this opportunity to convene CONCORD members’ leadership at national level and policy community for an internal, forward-looking workshop.
This workshop will aim to reflect on the fast changing environment in which we operate, and how this may affect our messages and ways of working, especially with the perspective to constructively propose a vision of the Europe we need for the changes we want in the world. Thus the workshop should help generate clear messages on the Europe We Want, our strategy for promoting it, as well as recommendations to the hubs on how to adapt the way we work today, towards a more strategic, coherent and impactful way.
The CONCORD workshop will start on Thursday 23 March at 11am, and end of Friday 24 March at lunch time.
A number of activities (workshops, march, stunts) will be organised on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 March. We hope that participants to the CONCORD workshop will be interested to stay longer in Rome and actively participate in these activites that aim to demonstrate the existence of a vibrant, diverse civil society in Europe that brings an alternative, constructive voice on the future of Europe.
Programmes for respectively the CONCORD workshop and the CSO activities are in the making; more information will be circulated as soon as possible.
CONCORD workshop is funded through the Gates grant. For organisational reasons, the participation is limited to 40 persons.
Within budget limits, CONCORD may cover the travelling expenses of some participants who could not afford coming otherwise (transport and/or 1 hotel night). In addition to the criteria of need and last resort, reimbursement will be granted in priority to participants who are from the leadership of national platforms (including those that will hold the EU Presidency in the few years to come), hubs and workstreams leaderships, PDC, Board. If budget is still available after these priority participants, we may grant further reimbursement on the basis of a geographically balanced participation.
Please register for the workshop as soon as possible and indicate no later than 27 February whether you will need reimbursement through the registration form.
We look forward to hearing from you!
